Fetzer Vineyards CarbonNeutral® Company

"Built on the belief that environmentally friendly practices produce better grapes (and therefore better wine), sustainability has been central to Fetzer Vineyards since the company was founded in 1968."

Josh Prigge, Director of Regenerative Development, Fetzer Vineyards

Built on the belief that environmentally friendly practices produce better grapes (and therefore better wine), sustainability has been central to Fetzer Vineyards since the company was founded in 1968.

After reducing its emissions by 50% through internal efficiencies, Fetzer Vineyards became the first CarbonNeutral® winery in the US in 2016, by offsetting its residual emissions through three carbon finance projects in North and South America.

Since becoming CarbonNeutral, Fetzer Vineyards has created a CarbonNeutral webpage to share its achievement with stakeholders. The page includes information on how the company achieved net zero emissions, what this means, why it’s important, and ideas for how individuals can reduce their own carbon footprint.

Fetzer Vineyards’ environmentally friendly ethos and “commitment to regenerate” is reinforced by a number of other “firsts” in the wine industry, including becoming the first winery in California to use 100% renewable energy, the world’s first wine company to achieve zero waste, the US’ first to publicly report greenhouse gas emissions to The Climate Registry, and the largest wine company in the world to achieve B Corp certification.

The company continues to seek opportunities to demonstrate climate leadership, most recently joining Ceres’ Business for Innovative Climate and Energy Policy (BICEP), a project promoting a unified business voice for national action on climate change. In early 2016, Fetzer Vineyards was invited by the United Nations to join Climate Neutral Now, a global community of organizations united in their mission of becoming climate neutral.

Ultimately Fetzer Vineyards strives for the perfect relationship between land, climate and vine to regenerate communities and bring wines of remarkable quality and character to the table. www.fetzer.com
